About This Course

The Enterprise Security Hands-On Lab provides a simulated environment in which you must detect, protect, and respond to a cyber threat at a fictitious company.

Note: This course is pilot course that will be run for one month to gather performance metrics.

Please note, the hands-on lab for this course must be completed in one session. It cannot be paused and restarted. Please allow yourself the entire 4-8 hours to finish the hands-on lab in one attempt.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

This hands-on lab will test your ability in the following areas:

  • How to defend your "company" from multi-step attack scenarios from simulated hackers.
  • Discover how your network and services are vulnerable to hacker attacks.
  • Understand how to implement security controls and prioritize the restoration of compromised services.
  • Enable students to evaluate various Microsoft and non-Microsoft security services.

PREREQUISITES

A full understanding of the following:

  • Windows administration skills.
  • Operating system hardening techniques.
  • Understand Group Policy
  • Event logging
  • Principle of least privilege
  • Tools or techniques to stop malware execution.
  • Securing protocols for remote access.
  • Identifying malicious or misconfigured access rights.
  • Tools or techniques to stop lateral movement.
  • Knowledge on how restore secure access rights after Active Directory compromise.
  • Understanding Kerberos authentication.
  • SMB protection
  • Browser Developer Tools

COURSE SYLLABUS

  • Scenario 1: Front end attack using an e-mail that leads a compromise of a host and user's credential theft
  • Scenario 2: Data leak attack focuses data discovery and protection methods
  • Scenario 3: Web server attack that leads to defacement/data leak

Margus Ernits

Margus Ernits is the CTO at RangeForce, where he is the architect of the RangeForce.com Cyber Simulator platform, which discovers, develops, and recruits cyber-talent using a cloud-based e-learning platform that enables users to simulate cyber-attacks in complex networks for hands-on, gamified, and adaptive learning. Margus has in-depth experience in GNU Linux, IT security and robotics. He has been nominated three times as a Lecturer of the Year in the Estonian IT College. Margus holds a MSc in engineering in cyber security, a joint curriculum from Tallinn University of Technology and the University of Tartu. He is a Barclays TechStars New York 2015 class alumni and a PhD student at Tallinn University of Technology.

Artur Ovtsinnikov is a Content Developer at RangeForce. He is responsible for the infrastructure and virtual environment of the RangeForce simulation platform. Artur has experience in GNU Linux, IT Security, Windows, Mac OS, CCNA & CCNA Sec, virtualization (mostly Virtualbox) and Web Application Security Essentials. He is also a Virtual Learning Space Specialist in Tallinn University of Technology.

Kustas Kurval is a Content Developer in RangeForce. He is responsible for developing and testing security related content for RangeForce Virtual Learning Spaces.

Before joining RangeForce he was working at an Agricultural Research Centre as an IT Chief specialist. He has been a IT systems administrator for 5 years. He has also worked in telecommunications as a networking specialist. He is actively participating in different cyber security related exercises.

Erki is a Content Developer Ninja at Rangeforce. He is daily tied up with building labs and making sure that they work as expected. Erki has been in IT now nearly a decade. He has experience in Administering networks, System Administration, Network and Location security.

Furthermore Erki is passionate about Offensive Security.

Roland Kaur

Roland Kaur

Content Developer Expert

Roland Kaur is a Content Development Expert in RangeForce. He is responsible for planning, developing, testing and integrating cyber security courses on the RangeForce Cyber Simulator platform. He is also a Virtual Learning Space Specialist in Tallinn University of Technology IT College where he coordinates the creation of virtual learning spaces and simulation environments used to teach IT to university students.

Before joining RangeForce, he was an Identity & Access Management Lead and a Security Delivery Specialist at IBM. He has also obtained a college diploma in IT Systems Administration by graduating the Estonian Information Technology College.
